First Edition Superman comic fetches $1.5million

A copy of the Action Comics No. 1 sold for $1.5 million.
A copy of the first edition of the Superman comic book from 1938 was sold for a record $1.5 million on March 29, setting a new high the price paid for a comic.

An anonymous buyer bought the copy of Action Comics No. 1 from 1938 for a record $1.5 million on the online auction site ComicConnect.com.

It is assumed that less than 100 copies of the Action Comics No 1 are still in existence. Auction house Comic Connect purchased the auctioned copy from a private collector.

The comic, which features the first appearance of the ‘Man of Steel’, soared into the record book weeks after a Batman comic had fetched $1.075m.

The record has been broken for the third time recently. Earlier, a copy of the same Superman comic edition fetched $1m a few days before the Batman comic was sold.

The June 1938 edition of Action Comics No 1 was sold originally for 10 cents.
