The Week Ahead: 4 October – 10 October 2010
Here are some of the stories destined for this week’s headlines.
Terror alert in Europe, Commonwealth Games in India, and Asian and European countries meet in Brussels.
A number of European countries have issued terror alerts after intelligence regarding a suspected terror plot was leaked to US media last week. Tension remains high after the US State Department issued travel alerts to tourists travelling to Europe, advising people to be cautious in tourist areas. According to security sources, there are fears of an attack similar to the one in Mumbai in 2008.
Asian and European leaders from the 48 members of the Asia-Europe Meeting will be meeting in Brussels on Monday to discuss a range of issues. Then on Wednesday EU president Jose Manuel Barroso will meet Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and South Korea’s president Lee Myung-bak separately.
The Commonwealth Games in New Delhi are now underway. During the lead up to the games they have been the subject of much controversy, and questions were raised regarding India’s competency to host the games.

This year’s winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announces on Friday October 8, the prize will be presented in December.
Finally this week, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank hold their annual meetings.
