The Week Ahead: 15 November – 21 November 2010


Here are some of the stories coming up in the week ahead.

NATO summit in Lisbon, Cholera outbreak worsens in Haiti and David Cameron outlines Britain’s foreign policy.

NATO leaders will be meeting in Lisbon on November 19 for a two day summit where US president Barack Obama is to attend. The meeting will focus on Afghanistan as well as the presentation of a new strategic concept for the organisation, designed to deal with the security threats of the 21st century. Alongside this a EU-US summit will take place where leaders of the European Union will be meeting with Mr Obama.

The outbreak of cholera in Haiti continues to worsen and the death toll has now risen to 917. International Organisations are now pleading for funds to help fight the epidemic inside the country which is still suffering from the aftermath of the earthquake that hit the nation in January.

On Monday UK prime minister David Cameron will give his annual address on foreign policy at the Lord Mayor’s Banquet in London. The focus will be on how Great Britain can remain a world power even with the rise of new economic giants.

The Asian Games which started on November 12 are continuing all week in Guangzhou, China.

Presidental elections are due to be held in Burkina Faso on Sunday.
